What causes PCOD?

·         Normally, the ovaries make female sex hormones and a tiny amount of male sex hormones or androgens. These hormones help in the regulation of the mal development of eggs in the ovaries during each menstrual period.

·         PCOD is related with the imbalance in these sex hormones. In such a condition, these start to make slightly more androgens. This result in woman to stop ovulating, get more pimples and grow facial and body hair.

·         Follicles are related to the sacs in which the ovaries contain eggs. In PCOD, these follicles do not mature and aren’t released from the ovaries. Instead of that, these form very small cysts in the ovary.
·         PCOD seems to be in genetics, thus the chance of having this is even higher if other women in the family also have PCOD, PCOS, irregular periods, or diabetes.
